A little book one can read from cover to cover in less than an hour. Many of the artists in the book were unknown to me. Mildly interesting. Cover photo is fun, but many inside are not very clever, or interesting.I expected more from this book.
Humorous and affectionate photo-journal of various famous people with their furry-purry friends. Each photo is accompanied by a brief essay about the subjects. Many fine-art photographers contributed to this book. A nice gift for cat-lovers, or for those who enjoy a peek into some private lives and some nine-lives.
Like most of us non-cat lovers (but cat tolerators) I have several cat lovers as friends and relatives. I bought several copies of this book as gifts to them. Every one of them loved it. I must admit, I enjoyed reading about each artist, as well as seeing their cats. The cover is what caught my eye in the store. I was curious as to which one was Salvador DalÃ.

What a fun book! I hesitated to buy it, I wanted larger photos, maybe in color - more like a coffee table book. Don't be as silly as I was, it's a great little book! I read through it quickly and then again, slowly - there's a lot to savor and to learn. I bought it as a gift for someone else, now I'm purchasing a second copy for myself.
Many wonderful pictures. Didn't realize many of the artists pictured had cats. Great for a coffee table or a cat lover.

Very much enjoyed Alison's new book, so much so that I am featuring it in our upcoming May-June issue, going out electronically to several thousand Dali enthusiasts worldwide. Wonderful anecdotes with portraits and candids of more than 50 well-known artists and the kitties they loved. Even the front cover of this book has two great things going for it -- Salvador Dali and cats!
Cool book! Guess I thought it was more coffee table size, but is a little smaller. Loved the stories and pictures. Any artist that has cats will love it.

We found this book to be very, very helpful in planning side trips from our stay in Brussels. Also, going home via Amsterdam for only one night and it gave us an idea of what we can and cannot see that evening.

Daytrips has everything you need to be a do-it-yourself tourguide. Trips are based on major cities in each country with estimated distances and times, so you can see what you want on your schedule. Each trip has at least one, and more often several, walking tours all of which begin at the train station (or bus stop if the area doesn't have one). The maps are detailed and clear; although I would recommend stopping at the local tourist information center and acquiring a map-locations for information centers are always highlighted. Each tour has some historic background on the area, places to visit and some dining suggestions. As a previous reviewer has noted, take prices and opening times with a grain of salt-they can and do change. I was a tour guide in this region (including Germany) for three years, and this book was always in my backpack. Without a doubt, Luxembourg, Belgium, and rural Holland are under visited by tourists. Luxembourg is probably the best-kept secret in Western Europe. The people in Benelux are friendly, especially towards Americans, prices are not outlandish and the scenery is excellent. HIGHLY Recommended.
This book rocked! We made last-minute travel plans to Brussles with no idea of what we would find once we got there. The book contains practical and interesting walking tour maps of plenty of towns worth visiting. This came in quite handy when we began taking the trains throughout Benelux using Brussels as our hub.Of all the books we brought with us on the trip (Frommers, Fodor, Time Out and others), This book turned out to be the most useful of all and was the most dog-eared by the end of our two weeks.We only used one of the restaurant reccomendations -- no great shakes, but then again, that was not what the book was for.

This was pointed out when Yuri Gagarin spent time in space and came back with many health problems, some of which were not able to be corrected. For that reason, NASA and the Russians have equipped their space shuttles, suits, etc. to provide the same frequencies as the ones the earth emits.This may well be one of the most important books you will ever read. This knowledge is crucial to maintaining good health especially as we age.
This book IS an introduction to PEMF but there are much better ones out there, check out the bibliography in the back of this book, however I agree that it's WRONG for Meyers to be pushing only one kind of machine, the iMRS, which is one of those multi level marketing outfits that try to make everyone a distributor, salesman, when you buy one of their machines. One or two additional comments is that "real" books about the subject, the ones mentioned in the biblio, for some reason, are enormously expensive!!!!!! And I don't know why? But Meyer's book doesn't hold a candle to those kind of books. The other thing, from what I can tell, is that the PEMF device business in extremely competitive, I would say cutthroat, and it's very hard to decide which of the numerous machines to buy plus just about all of them are VERY expensive so i't hard to know what to get because you're making a BIG financial investment. I won't say what machine I eventually got because I have some doubts about it as well. The fact of the matter is there is NO truly objective outfit out there that is testing and evaluating these devices so BUYER BEWARE. And the tragedy is that these are immensely valuable devices that undercut conventional medicine but are shrouded in secrecy and hard to evaluate information because they are REVOLUTIONARY and could very well overturn conventional medicine so for profit Western allotropic medicine will do everything it can to keep them in the shadows. The devices in general are much more current in Europe and Asia because those areas have always been more welcoming to integrative or alternative medicine. So before you purchase ANY PEMF device do as much research as you can, I've spent months at it, and I'm still not sure I made the right choice. However I am totally convinced of the importance of these devices they can help in ways that will dumbfound you, they're certainly the wave of the future and that's why the whole field is do heavily contested and competitive because there are billions if not trillions to be made off this methodology.
PEMF is emerging in a big way because it WORKS. From sports injuries to simply helping your body deal with all the electrosmog that is an unfortunate consequence of our connected world, PEMF is a technology you need to learn about if you are shooting for optimal health. On a personal note, a local chiropractor has a PEMF machine that helped me get my bradycardia reversed...I have been running 37-39 bpm for over a couple decades now, and had been told I would need a pacemaker (I kept putting it off, hoping to find a more natural resolution - and THIS IS IT!). After a less than 8 treatments (I call them that loosely - really, you just relax on a magnetic PEMF pad placed on a recliner/chair that looks like its out of the IKEA catalogue. I actually feel kind of guilty as the recliner is situated in a physical rehab area where everyone around me is grunting and stretching and I'm just relaxing and reading.) After a couple months of going for 30 minute treatments once a week, I took my pulse (which i do every few months just to keep an eye on it). and it was 52!!! Checked it again a couple days later...52!!!! WooHoo!
By now, PEMF has demonstrated very significant therapeutic capability in many areas. It is very helpful for wound healing. It is used to speed and enhance recovery of olympic athletes. It is used by NASA to support extended space flight. The medical literature associated with it is extensive and very reliable. Its utility is not actually in doubt. Given that, it seems unusual that it hasn't penetrated the American health care market as it has the German market. I asked a prominent podiatrist why and she said that the utility for wound healing and limb salvage was already demonstrated, but it would not be made available any time soon because it is not included as a charging category in Medicare accounting. So, it reflects again that in North America we have a business system that also delivers medical care, not a system primarily of medical care. The book is well written and engaging, but for my mind, it goes too far. It conjectures right down to the level of fermions and bosons what mechanisms may lead to these wonderful healing properties. The science itself is fascinating, but not all the connections made by the author are really justified in the literature. In that sense, it seems that PEMF is slightly over-sold in this book technically. It is difficult here to separate real science from wishful conjecture. It is a shame in the sense that a slightly stodgier approach might actually seem more credible. It seems, as it is written, a little too good to be all true. That's a shame, because PEMF is really very good.

Diana Gabaladon has written a book that touches the heart and mind. I could not put the book down and for the first time in many years I cared about the characters I felt as if there were intimate friends and I could not wait to know what would happen next. Bravo Ms. Gabaldon!
Several people in my life have recommended the Outlander series to me for years, so despite my not ever feeling a strong pull toward the premise, I finally caved and tried to give it a shot, with the first book. Long story short: I quit at 49%. I'm not really sure what I was expecting of this book except to find it to be a very good read, according to so very many. I was definitely *not* expecting a glorified bodice ripper. I mean, I knew there was going to be "romance" due to the main thrust of the plot being how Claire navigates two great loves in two different times, but I thought there was going to be more to it. (And maybe there is, later on? But I doubt it.) Took me awhile to admit that the "story" is really just various pretexts for putting Claire and her Scottish husband Jamie into a variety of steamy sex scenes.Now, don't get me wrong: I like a good steamy romance novel, now and again. It's just that I was expecting more substance from this particular series. I love sci-fi, and time travel qualifies, but turns out that's just a cute backdrop for the romance, at least in the first half of the first book. No way am I remotely inclined to slog through 8 books to see if it breaks free of the Harlequin vibe!The writing is not bad, so I'm giving it three stars. I'm not quite as outraged by the what others are calling misogyny and domestic abuse; I believe Jaime loves Claire and is trying to be a proper, loving husband, but the corrective spanking/beating he doles out is infantilizing, at best. Claire is a fighter and puts some hurt back on him, but the whole situation is designed to do what I mentioned at the beginning: to set up a steamy sex scene. In this case, a sex scene with strong B&D overtones that I don't find appealing at all.So yeah, that was about halfway through and is the point at which I remembered that life is too short to waste good reading time on anything I'm not thoroughly into. Especially with the prospect of seven more books to go. Ugh. No. Time to find something else.

Just wow! When I first started to read this book, I hadn’t seen the TV series yet and I decided not to read the blurb. I just jumped right into the book to discover what it was about. I’ve seen countless references to Outlander on the pages that I follow on instagram and Facebook and just had to find out more.After WWII, former war nurse Claire and her husband, Frank go to Scotland on their 2nd honeymoon. In Scotland, Frank is learning about his genealogy and traced one of his ancestors as Captain Jack Randall of the English Red Dragoons, from the 18th Century. As they continue their trip, they decide to visit the Stonehenge and witness a beautiful pagan ritual. Claire goes back to the same location to take a look at flowers she found in the vicinity, but when something about these standing stones captures her attention, she touches it and ends up getting transported into the 18th Century. Once she arrives, she meets her husbands ancestor and he’s nothing like the man she knows her husband to be. I feel like I’ve entered the 18th Century right along with Claire and I absolutely love it!“As though, knowing that everything is possible, suddenly nothing is necessary.†Diana Gabaldon takes you on an adventure with each turn of the page; it’s beautiful, heart-breaking, you’re able to connect with the characters and you feel their pain.I’ll admit the writing was a bit difficult to get adjusted to and I used the dictionary more times than I care to admit, but once I got the hang of it, I just couldn’t put it down this 600+ page book! A few hundred pages in, I finally got into the story, only to quickly find that I could not finish reading the book. The scene where Jamie beats Claire within an inch of her life could have been used as a turning point for the characters, but instead was a quick moment that was quickly forgotten/forgiven by Claire. Practically just after he has forcibly held her down and whipped her, she is having sex with him. She also finds this to be the perfect time to tell him she loves him? I would not recommend that anyone read this book as it portrays the wrong impression to females. This book promotes domestic violence and abusive mentality. To let Claire believe she deserved the physical punishment (regardless of the time period) sends the wrong message to young girls or women suffering from abuse. The author clearly did not think about the views her writing would portray in relation to social issues. If I could give this 0 stars I would.
Hated this book. I saw a few episodes of the TV series and it seemed OK, so I thought I would try the book series. I won't be reading any more of her books. She seems to have a creepy obsession with rape and sexual violence. There are WAY too many sex scenes, so many that it got tiresome. These scenes are very graphic, as are the descriptions of rape.***SPOILERS****I had to draw the line, though, at the "hero" beating the heroine because she "deserves it", then telling her after that he enjoyed beating her, and she is basically ok with that and falls in love with him. No, this not OK, nor is it at all romantic. It's sick. I was disgusted and disappointed by this book. It also seems homophobic because the only gay characters are creepy rapists. This book belongs in the trash.
