After five years having passed since the tragic sudden death of my son, the pain is with our family everyday. It does not get better, it just changes. We have read many books, and attended several grieving groups, with mixed results. Although we have survived the first year, we continue to be told that we have "excessive grief" and have been been told that we need to "get over it and move on". Those of us who suffered this tragedy live in a different world and always will. This is one of the few books that absolutely "gets it".
This is one of the best books I have read surrounding the death of a loved one I have read. I personally have lost10 family members in about as many years and this book helped alot in my life. Have lost children, grandchildren,parents, spouse, nieces, sister-in-law, too many to list. At least one a year since 2010 and some years, 2.This book really helped.
My husband went in for a routine test and ended up dying from it. His death was so sudden and so unexpected that I needed something to help me cope. As a writer I just couldn't find my own words to deal. After reading other reviews on this book I knew I needed to order it. I read a chapter a night and it is helping me to cope and to understand that life does go on. It also helps you to understand there is no time limit on grief and no two people will ever grieve the same. Much thanks to the author
Though my mother was sick for many years, her death completely through me off my center of gravity. I'd always (for reasons unknown) suppressed grief in the past so I found myself lost and dumbfounded without a clue as to how I was going to live in the days that followed without the person who'd been there every single day of my life. I am quite spiritual, though not at all religious; this book made no attempt to shove my nose into a bible and tell me to simply "have faith". It somehow gave me permission to grieve, to be angry, and eventually to heal - all on MY terms, rather than those of sometimes insensitive well-wishers. It also gave me the tools to recognize each stage of grief as it happened so I could deal with myself, so to speak.I Wasn't Ready to Say Goodbye breaks down the different kinds of grief and offers ways to cope with each in an easy-to-read format. I have re-read it a few times and each time, it provides me incredible solace. My only regret is not having read this book immediately following my mother's passing. Doing so would certainly have enabled me to not struggle so much with the overwhelming sadness, anger, and pain. If you've lost someone you love and even if you're close to someone who did, this is THE book that will help you get through the tough times ahead.
I'm in my twenties, and both my parents passed away unexpectedly. Along with a ton of other support, this book has helped me a great deal. I bought it hoping it would quicken my progress of "moving on" from my overwhelming grief. It hasn't helped me "move on" more quickly, it has shown me that my thoughts and emotions are understandable, justified, and common among people that experience all types of unexpected losses.This book puts to rest questions like, 'Is what I'm feeling normal?'; or 'Is how I'm feeling normal?'What this book revealed to me was how much energy I was using by focusing on my inability to 'recover'. That fear of not being able to "get over it". My self-perceived lack of recovery frightened me from exploring and internalizing the details of the tragedy. The concept of a time-frame for "moving on", the book shows, is unhelpful and unhealthy. There's grief, memories, even searing confusion, but all are a piece to the process. The grief I carry with me, I know it must be directly proportional to my parent's love. Instead of running away from those emotions, I now carry them with me. The memories, even the difficult ones, they belong to me. They are defining moments that help me travel this journey.I felt really lost and disconnected for a while, and this book has been a profound and important part of finding myself again.
This book. I love it so much! It has sections so I usually just find the section talking about what I am currently experiencing. I ordered it about a month after my dad passed.. It has been 9 months now and I just love the book.
My husband died in an apparent accident 6 weeks ago - and overall I have found this book very helpful. I have to say, however, that it overestimates the extent to which someone in this situation can expect help from others. I have certainly received emotional support and practical assistance from friends and acquaintances, for which I am very grateful. At the same time, I have also found that a) many individuals and businesses go out of their way to try to extract money from survivors in vulnerable times like this, and I have spent dozens of hours in the last few weeks fighting off these attempts, and b) as a surviving spouse, I am the only person with the authority to handle most business matters related to my husband's passing - so family members can't help, even if they want to, and c) I am still trying to get the state police to give me basic details of their internal report of what happened - so far, to no avail. A book like this would be even more helpful if it would acknowledge these realities and recommend coping strategies.
This book was given to me by a friend after losing my 13 year old son unexpectedly. It helped me know that what I was feeling was normal. For example, it explained that's it's okay to forget for a few minutes, which I felt so guilty for, because a person's brain can't take it all at once. It has to process more slowly. It also let me know what people grieving need, so I have be a better friend to others suffering. I buy this book for everyone I know who loses a loved one suddenly.

I bought this for my 3 year old who loves Spirit but didn’t realize it’s a chapter book. Definitely not for little ones, I’ll keep it for her when she gets older though.
My granddaughter loves it. Light-weight reading, good stuff for pre-teens.
Our five year old daughter loved this. I thought it wasn’t as good as the first but was close (maybe a 9/10 versus a 10/10). I actually even really enjoyed it and found myself looking ahead because I was impatient reading at the speed of a child to find out what would happen.
Bought it for a Christmas present for our 8 yr. old granddaughter and she is almost done with it and wants another one. Wish there were more to buy her, but did just order the other book available. Great book and series!
good story, my daughters love it... but it will NOT synch up to the kindle book which is a lot annoying...My daughters are 7 and 10, they have both read the book and they sometimes listen to the audiobook when they fall asleep... worth every penny.

As an Adult relearning the piano after 30+ years, I purchased 4 different Piano instruction books from Amazon to get me going. This was by far the best. The book is spiral bound, so it lays flat on the piano music sheet holder which is really important. The book introduces a bit of music theory and knowledge on every other page or so - which helps a lot in understanding the other parts of the music besides learning notes. There is a wide range of music to learn (classical, popular, blues, etc) at just the right level at the right time, getting progressively more difficult as you work through the book. It took me about 1 1/2 months to work through the book and I rate it as excellent instruction for anyone wanting to learn or re-learn the piano.
A little background before I get into the real review: My 14 y/o trumpet player daughter has been wanting to learn the piano for years. Because she has C.P. we had been putting it off thinking that trying to coordinate both hands at once and read music would be too frustrating for her. Her trumpet teacher disagreed and recommended she start with the Suzuki method as she has and incredibly good ear and quite a bit of natural musical talent. From my understanding of Suzuki, there is quite a bit of parent involvement required. This is a problem for me given I have limited experience playing an instrument (flute. I really should have listened when my mom said I'd regret giving it up) and absolutely none with the piano. I bought this book to help rectify that, knowing that I'll be sitting in on her weekly lessons and absorbing a lot of information there.Having only had the book a couple of days, I love it already. The book assumes you are coming to the piano with no prior musical experience and starts from the very beginning. It introduces the musical alphabet and shows where each note falls on the keyboard. When reading from the staff is introduced, the note names are printed right in the note so your eyes are traveling along the staff instead of looking elsewhere. With each lesson on theory you are given exercises and practice tunes that reinforce the lesson. There are also written exercises to really help make those connections solid. You move along fairly quickly, playing simple melodies with each hand separately to playing with both hands. Once harmonic intervals are introduced (pg.26) and you start playing the melody with one hand and harmonics with the other, you really feel like you're making music! It's pretty exciting to go from not knowing where middle C is located to playing Jingle Bells with a bit of harmony in 2 days! I can't wait to continue to grow with this book.I do plan on adding scales and such to my practice sessions, as these are truly the things that will help you progress and give you a more fundamental understanding of how music is put together. Playing scales and arpeggios are just as important to a musician as stretching is to a runner. They may not be the most fun, but they are essential, which my daughter hates to hear.Some have said that the song selection leaves a bit to be desired. While I don't disagree that songs like "Tisket, A Tasket", "Lightly Row", and "Aunt Rhody" are juvenile, (these are the songs all young musicians start with. The Good Lord knows I've sat through many a squeaky beginning band performance of them!) they are the type of song that build that foundation for the great things to come. By the time you finish this book you should be able to play songs like "Over the Rainbow" and "Singin' in the Rain". You can also find loads of simple piano music online for free and there's always the option of purchasing books of beginner music if you find that you're board by the selections provided.Also be aware that this book does not come with the c.d. Not really a problem as there are loads of nice folks who have uploaded videos to youtube of all the songs. Just search for Alfred's Basic Adult Piano and you'll have your pick.All in all, I really am enjoying learning with this book. I feel like I'm able to grasp the concepts that are introduced and will be able to help my daughter along once her lessons start in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to finishing this book, which I hope will come sooner rather than later, and starting on the next one.
Good book. No CD, but Youtube is better than the CD anyway. Kindly people who play well have put all these pieces on Youtube, labelled, in order, corresponding to the book, played on a real piano, with no other instruments in the background. See for example those by Chanel Harris. You can buy the CD on Amazon, but reviews are not great. Apparently the CD is not a real piano and has synthesized other instruments accompanying and its confusing. Get the book. Use it with Youtube.
I'm in my 40s and wanted to start playing again after about 25 years away from the piano. The course is great and logically builds on itself as you proceed. I actually wish I had this when I played as a kid. Would have progressed much faster. I strongly recommend as someone with a little experience coming back to the piano.
Its been over 50 years since I last touched a piano (I’m 62). I play a little guitar, but my music reading ability had regressed to beginner status. I bought a keyboard and picked up this book based on good reviews. The first few pages looked very simple, but I decided I would read and complete every lesson, and I’m so glad I did! Having gotten half way through the first book in a week I realize I have learned things my piano teacher never did. I’m getting more comfortable reading music, and feel like as long as I stick with these books I will continue to progress. I am grateful to have found this All-In-One series.
Ok, first off, I actually like this book, and I actually like it a little better than 3 stars. Here's my problem: When I looked at piano books on Amazon, this manual and "Alfred's Self-Teaching Adult Piano Course: The new, easy and fun way to teach yourself to play, Book & CD" both had excellent ratings. In fact AMAZON recommended them being bought together.So I bought them both.I just started them a few days ago (I thought I would use one for a few days, then use the other and decide which one I liked better to complete it before I finished the other one entirely.)This book and "Alfred's Self-Teaching Adult Piano Course: The new, easy and fun way to teach yourself to play, Book & CD" are basically the SAME BOOK!This one has more "homework" exercises (writing in the manual itself, which I don't care to do.) But the progression is the same, the songs are the same, almost page for page. (At least, I'm 40 pages into each, and they're the same.)So now I have real buyer's remorse... one of these is redundant.
