I bought the paperback international version new. It arrived with damage to the binding, markings on the cover, slightly bent corner, and some debris I would guess is from stickers being removed from the cover at some point.TL;DR: Looks like it's used and was thrown from a moving truck during delivery.
I used this book for a couple of my graduate level E&M classes. This book seems to be a good foundation for learning the theoretical in's and out's of E&M. That being said, it is great for graduate students and professors but not so great for real engineers.Now that I am a Systems (RF) Engineer, I have not found this book all that useful as a reference, simply because I have to go through tons of math just to get the answer I need. It is definitely not a "quick reference" book for the practicing engineer, but rather a in depth mathematical look into E&M theory.

Paul Farmer is to me the greatest thinker and do-er in medicine in our times. He has gotten a team of great people to deliver quality care, REALLY quality care, to the poorest people in the world, for diseases that many hard-hearted economic-minded folks thought could never be treated due to scarcity models of thinking. What I love about Dr. Farmer is the way he is filled with expert mercy and real hope. NOT optimism, but hope. And he inspires us all, with the way he SEES how it can be done.I was in the Peace Corps in Paraguay, and just a bit ahead of his cycling between Harvard and Haiti. So I know whereof he speaks, and what he has accomplished. I have spent my career practicing medicine in the USA, and I know that all our patients need the same things-- the same help from physicians, and improvements in delivery of care. It gives me abiding joy to see his work, to hear his words. I want to give this book to every young person I know. WE CAN do things better!
Paul Farmer presents his outlook in a series of Commencement speeches, addressing the need to address poverty and inequality around the world. His experience in many countries with Partners in Health gives him authority to speak about global health issues and the inadequate measures to solve these problems. He presents his ideas with humor, eloquence and passion. However since it is a series of speeches, it can be repetitive and I learned more from his previous book, Haiti After the Earthquake, that described the challenges of that country in surviving after the devastation brought by the earthquake. His philosophy comes through with more detail in the Haiti book.
This book contains a series of Dr. Paul Farmer's commencement addresses at many very prestigious medical schools and schools of public health. Consistent with Paul Farmer's many previous publications, his message is that our mission on earth should be to emphasize the "option for the poor." His approach is excellent and relatively inexpensive. He deplores the transformation of healthcare in the United States from being a ministry focused on helping and healing the sick into an industry focused primarily on money. As one who entered medical school over half a century ago, I certainly identify with his message and have seen medical practice in the United States transformed by the medical-industrial complex into what sometimes amounts to no more than organized extortion.

I very much admire Paul farmers work. This book was inspiring, but became redundant with repetitions on the same stories. I recommended it to physicians who want to remember why they went into medicine anyway.

It's very informative. I like it more when texts have a boldface definition describing and defining things. I was required to read 5 chapters a week, so not an easy read. Also, the author likes to use five dollar words where they do not need to be and also at times , are incorrect.
The Handbook of Dispute Resolution is a product of the Program on Negotiation [PON]at the Harvard Law School. It is a 520 page academic compendium of short articles on a wide range of aspects of negotiation and dispute resolution. It is not so much a handbook as it is a scholarly survey of articles on aspects of dispute resolution such as: personality, emotion, gender, culture, main types of ADR procedures, on-line dispute resolution, etc.It should be read by those looking for a broad view of the dispute resolution field. Short chapters make for sustained progress through this tome.
Needed this for a class and still using in my education and will continue using it.

This is a book for all those kids (and their parents) who sometimes take life a little too seriously and need balance. It's a humorous story about an egg who lives in a carton with 11 others with the most interesting names. The Good Egg does everything he's supposed to, is helpful, and follows the rules. His buddies...not so much. They show bad behavior a lot of the time, and even though he tries, the Good Egg can't keep the peace. He becomes so frazzled and anxious his shell starts to crack. He decides he needs to take care of himself for a change. He travels, goes on walks, reads books, and over time starts to feel good about himself again. And his cracks heal. Missing his friends, he decides to go back, but he resolves not to worry about what the others do as much as before. He knows they'll still do bad things every once in a while, but, hey, nobody's perfect. The pictures are just right; illustrator Oswald injects humor in interesting places. His eggs have arms and legs and very expressive faces, and one mischievous egg even slaps a sign on the back of the Good Egg that says "Kick Me." This is a good read and has some good tips for adults and kids.
I was curious as to how I would like this book, but I usually either like or love a Jory John book. This one I loved. Though it will have comparisons to his other book The Bad Seed, I liked this one a lot better. This has a few great messages that are good for children to hear. The main messages being the importance of self-care and relaxation, and not expect everyone to act like you do. Definitely geared towards lower elementary kids but has value and uses with higher grades, too. The illustrations are detailed and well done.
This book is great on so many levels depending on the perspective one views it from. The importance of remembering we don’t have to be perfect all the time, the importance of self care and accepting ourselves and others for who they are. I love this book and I look forward to more witty and thought provoking kids books from this author. If you love The Bad Seed you will love The Good Egg. My son gave it a big thumbs up!
Cute book. Its not as interactive as the last book and my kids didn't get into it as much because of that. I feel like it missed the mark a little on the story and lesson.
The Good Egg is a story the whole family enjoys reading when Sophia comes to visit. I appreciate a book that makes conversations easy to have about feelings that children might not ordinarily engage in with family or care givers.The Good Egg learns to take a deep breath and have fun with friends even while he is being super silly!
My son who is autistic loves The Bad Seed, so I was so excited to see The Good Egg come out! It has a beautiful message of self love and self awareness. I do think that its more geared towards older kids, even adults can get a good dose of therapy from this book! My son is 7, and he really enjoyed it - so really fun for all ages. However to get the true message, I definitely think that older kids would likely relate to it more! Loved it so much, I bought two as gifts.
This is a companion to The Bad Seed which both of my kids love (4 & 7 YO). The good egg gets tired of trying to make his family act right. But he realizes that's not his responsibility. Very cute and a good message for children.

About the Author
Ryan Smithson joined the Army Corps of Engineers following 9/11 and was deployed to Iraq in 2004. I was excited to read this book because I enjoyed Ryan's first book, "Ghosts of War". Ryan graduated from the same high school as my oldest two children, just a few years ahead of them, so the fact he was local drew my attention to Ghosts of War. I was blown away by his writing. I would strongly recommend Ghosts of War as required reading for high school history classes, to see what the Iraq and Afghanistan wars felt like to recent soldiers, in their age group. Later, when my own son joined the Army as a Cavalry Scout, and served in Afghanistan, I had a whole new appreciation for Ryan's book, and how he wrote so accurately, for those of us 'back home', what it was like to be a young soldier in a modern war.When I found out Ryan was writing a fiction book, about an Army guy (a Cav Scout like my son!) I couldnt wait to read it. It did not disappoint. Books like 10 Klicks are what those of us who are busy living our lives in a safe country that we rarely think of the realities of war, need. It's the story of a young soldier who ended up on foreign soil, in an Army uniform, for reasons not as patriotic as most. It traces his journey through boot camp, and deployment, letting us get to know the men (and woman) he serves with. He tells their stories along with his own. Just as the story is trotting along, a life altering event happens to the soldiers, and we get to see how they all react in the weeks afterward. By that point in the book you've come to care about the characters, and their outcomes matter. This book would also be great required reading for any high schooler, or adult. It's a great, ACCURATE, depiction of what is happening halfway across the world, on foreign sand, to men and women wearing our US uniforms.I highly recommend it. It's especially helpful for parents of soldiers who have or are going to be deployed. It gives us a peek into the world our kids' experience, without the immediate personal connection we might get from the stories we are lucky enough to dig out of our own soldier.
Where do I begin? This is brilliant. As I lived through Charlie Main's time in and around 10 Klicks, I was enthralled. When I occasionally tore myself away, returning to real life, I always wondered about the inspiration for these characters. In the real world, who is Carrie? Who is Shields? Are these completely out of Ryan Smithson's head? In the end, I decided I didn't care. Not to dismiss the plot, because it is interesting, but this book is, as many of my favorites are, very character-driven. Right from the outset, this is established. This is completely organic and you find yourself right there with them. You know them. You feel with them and need to know what happens to them next.Now, I purposely didn't start here, but I think it is worth mentioning: I didn't expect this. I loved Ghosts of War. That was nonfiction. I don't know many (any?) authors that can transition from nonfiction to fiction, effectively or otherwise.To anyone considering this book, it is totally worth the investment.To the author, Charlie Mike!

Ryan Smithson's fabulous memoir GHOSTS IF WAR showed us what a powerful storyteller he could be. But memoirs, being non-fiction trap a writer by facts. Smithson shows his remarkable talent as a novelist here in his first novel. This story rings so true and touches the heart while stimulating our understanding of the world and ourselves. A BRILLIANT debut.
An amazing book by a hometown author. The book just flowed and I felt like I knew the characters. The characters were believable, each with its own flaws. The end of the book left me wanting more. Hoping that Ryan will do a sequel!
