Best prek (and primary grades) behavior book ever. I'm a special education teacher and I use the techniques in the book successfully with ALL my students.

The Hellfrost Player's Guide is a well written quality product. Its production values are excellent. The colored artwork is top-notch and evokes a sense of the setting's mood, which has something of an early medieval Nordic and Germanic feel to it, rather than the High Middle Ages feel of many traditional fantasy settings. Eleven sections cover such things as the various races, gear, religion, magic, various organizations/guilds, and such things as daily life, weather, languages, the calendar, etc. Note, however, that this book does NOT contain details on the various kingdoms or geographical regions. For that you will need the companion Hellfrost Gazatteer. In addition, there is also a Hellforst Bestiary and a good number of quality adventure modules available.The Hellfrost setting is designed to be used with the Savage Worlds RPG system, although one could certainly adapt this setting for use with any system. As with any Savage Worlds setting there are a number of new Hindrances and Edges available to characters. Note that one must also have the core Savage Worlds rules to use this setting with that system.While it has many of the typical fantasy tropes there is enough of a unique spin on many of them to make them seem slightly less clichéd. The standard fantasy races such as Elves, Dwarves, and Halflings are present, and while familiar they are given fresh treatment adapting them to the setting. For example, Haflings (called Engros) are not your rural pastoral Hobbits out of Tolkien, but are more like gypsies that travel about in colorful wagons and who are generally viewed with distrust by the other races, often with good reason. There is also the Frostborn, a new race mysteriously emerging from the existing races but uniquely adapted to endure and thrive in the ever increasing cold. Interestingly there are no half-breed races as the reaces are genetically incompatible; so no half-elf no half-orc, no half-dwarf with a twist of dragon blood and dash of pixie...which is really sort of refreshing. Humans are divided up into four groups each with their own cultural distinctives and racial characteristics.The Religion section is fairly detailed. While the whole polythiesitc spin on fantasy religion has grown sort of wearisome for me, I think they have done a good job with it here. Some 24 deities are described along with details about their various clerical orders. Each deity has an order of priests and a militant order of paladins or champions - yes even the evil deities have paladins. The clerics of each deity receive a signature power associated with that deity, along with a custom list of available powers or miracles. Thus no two clerics of differing deities will have exactly the same abilities or powers. The description of each deity also contains a list of duties for followers, and a list of minor and major sins which can have negative in-game consequences for characters who serve that deity and fail to comply.Magic is treated somewhat differently here than in the Savage Worlds core rules. There are no power points, for example. Also, the use of magic can be dangerous because of something called siphoning, which is a type of corruption to the magical energies that can result in a backlash harming the caster, or even causing them to lose their power for a period of time, or even permanently. There are several different kinds of arcane powers: Druidism; Elementalism; Heathwisardry (in which practitioners who use a staff as their focus); Hrimwisardry (which draws up on the cold of the Hellfrost); Rune Magic (practiced only by Frost Dwarves); and Song Magic (skalds). A whole section is dedicated to Hedge Magic, which is essentially herbalism. Many new spells are introduced, and a number spells from the core rules have been modified to fit the setting.So far my biggist criticism (and it is minor) is that the economy and gear section seem to be underdeveloped. The base unit of currency is the gold scield (shield). The only other coin in circulation across all the realms is the seolfor scield (silver shield). I realize the 'gold piece' is the standard currency for many fantasy campaigns, but for me it just sort of take a little bit away from an otherwise coherent setting when a bar of soap cost 1 gold piece/scield, or a torch goes for 5 gold scields. I guess we can conclude that gold is quite pleantiful in such a world. Although in fairness it does suggest that these coins are small, and that barter is more common in some regions than coins. I would also like to have seen a more extensive list of equipment or mundane gear. But again these are minor things, and easily enough modified if so desired.In conclusion, this is a very impressive work! Good writing, good art, and solid content in a high quality hardback binding. If you are looking for a slightly gritty mid-to-high fantasy setting with a unique twist, this might be for you. At the very least it is a treasure chest of great ideas for anyone interested in mining it for inspiration for their own setting.
The Hellfrost world has a lot more interesting things going on than the typical game setting. My players and I are just starting our adventures in it, but so far we've enjoyed it quite a bit. The historical background gives plenty of context to the various competing factions and lots of adventure fodder. The Hellfrost game setting seems to be quite well supported with modules and adventures to make the GM's life easier.
I really loved this setting and I thought it was a perfect addition to Savage Worlds!
I looked at some Savage Worlds sourcebooks: Necessary Evil,Winterweir,Hellfrost,Fantasy Comp,Super Powers Comp,Bedlam City,Dawn of Legends,Necropolis 2350,Shaintar,Legends of Steel. I've ranked those in what my opinion are Best to Worst. A new Savage Worlds core book should come out in August 2011.Hellfrost is a cold world. The gods of Fire and the Sun have gone missing, and the goddess protecting the realm of the dead has gone insane. Two races are now based on Cold.This is a cruel world that has been set up, with lots of minor twists to shake out stale fantasy tropes. Every race (elves, dwarves, humans, halflings) is different from the usual norm. The various gods and the expected behavior of Paladins and Clerics was well done.Magic is failing. Messing up a spell subjects the caster to The Siphoning, which can permanently drain magical ability. Making magical artifacts is a lost art.I went for a PDF bundle for the player's guide, bestiary, and gazetteer from the company website. They look pretty good on my Kindle.There is a lot different in this world, and I liked it. This is one of the 5 star Savage Worlds. Recommended.
This is your traditional epic fantasy setting with strong viking, Beowulf flavors with rushing undercurrents of dark and grim. The land is ever imperiled by the increasingly crueler magical winter and denizens of the north. Rassilon (the Hellfrost world) also has a lot of old school fantasy leanings and reminds me not a little of Greyhawk and "the Known World" of Mystara.The Player's Guide is essentially what you need to play the game in the Hellfrost setting...the character options and some setting details (religions, new Edges and Hindrances, races, gear, spells, life in Rassilon). But you'll also need the "Savage Worlds Explorers Edition ($9.99)" for the actual mechanical rules.There are a couple of new additions to the rules that stand out to me: Glory and the changes to Savage Worlds Magic.A new trait called Glory is a system for acquiring reputation as a hero. Measured in points characters can gain or lose Glory, and spend Glory on benefits to add depth to a characters story and the world.Magic is bit different, doing away with magic points and relying on the inherent danger of spell-craft to limit the characters willingness to resort to magic.The books physical properties are well done. A solid production with nice art work that adds to the content and inspires.

Rented from apex_media and it was a total mess. The pages are barely connected to the binding and there is print everywhere. Someone not only took notes in it but reinvented case briefing and just wrote on part of the paragraphs. They filled the margins with large print and just made it the most difficult read of law school.The book itself is a law book and is what it is.

Inefficiently written/organized.
The book was in much worse condition than what was described in the listing. While the book was misrepresented, they gave me a prepaid shipping label and prompt refund.
Purchased new on AUG. 7th. I'm 10 weeks into the semester and the book is falling apart. All under normal use.
Although the link to this text indicates in title it is the "concise" edition - when I purchased it used there was no such indication. I am now 2/3 into my semester taking Remedies and have gotten to the point where I am missing an entire chapter of case law! The one case in a section is not in the full version either. I am not technically 100 pages behind because of this failure to explicitly indicate what the difference is between the regular and concise version.
The book I ordered was the concise edition and I received the full edition. Simple mix up, but they would not respond to my return requests and I had to buy another book without a refund. STAY AWAY.

I had never heard of the pilot Hans Ulrich Rudel until I saw his name mentioned several times while leafing through a few older books about the Luftwaffe. When I noticed his incredible list of wartime exploits, I have to admit I was intrigued enough to learn more about him. His career was meteoric to say the least, yet began in a very unorthodox manner when contrasted with the more widely known Luftwaffe aces of his day. Deemed a slow learner and a pilot of 'mediocre' abilities by his superiors, Rudel was not considered a suitable fighter pilot candidate and was subsequently assigned to observation and reconnaissance missions at the very beginning of the war. His early career in the Luftwaffe seemed to be characterized by bitterness and strife when dealing with his superior officers. The charismatic Rudel was nevertheless determined to make a difference in the war and prove his superiors mistaken in their gross underestimation of his abilities. In the rigidly disciplined Luftwaffe, having an aggressive personality or being an outspoken individual could be detrimental--if not terminal--to a young pilots fledgling career. Fortunately for Rudel, he managed to get himself transferred to dive bombing training in 1940, where he quickly learned to perfect the new military discipline with devastating efficiency. His outspoken nature and stubborn individualism was soon enough overlooked as he began to lead his fellow Stuka pilots and perform exceptionally well on their dangerous missions. Having discovered his true calling at last, Rudel began immediately to make his presence felt in the German war effort. Rudels remarkable accomplishments came in rapid succession, enabling him to develop a legendary name for himself while imprinting fear into the hearts and minds of his Soviet opponents (much like Baron Manfred Von Richtoffen did in the First World War on the Western Front). Although the point is debatable, it is easy to understand how Hans Ulrich Rudel might be considered the most valuable soldier in the Second World War. In all, he flew over 2,500 combat missions, downed 11 enemy aircraft, destroyed: 519 tanks, 4 armored trains, several bridges, over 1000 trucks and transport vehicles, 70 landing craft, two battle cruisers, a destroyer, and the Soviet Battleship Marat. Is it any wonder that Josef Stalin placed the highest bounty on Rudel's head? On several occasions he landed behind enemy lines to rescue downed airmen from his unit, and on one momentous occasion things went disastrously wrong--but I wont spoil the harrowing story for you, the reader. His accomplishments were so impressive that Hitler himself insisted on creating a new award to distinguish Rudel from all other German military and civilian aces and heroes of the day. Thus, Rudel was the only soldier in Germany to earn 'The Knights Cross of the Iron Cross with GOLDEN Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds. The book started out a tad slow for my liking, but became a damned good read once Rudel found his true calling in 1940. What fascinated me the most about this book is the sporadic insight we are given into the nature and inner workings of the German military machine and the German High Command itself. I also enjoyed reading about his interactions with the notable personalities of Hermann Goering and Adolf Hitler in particular. One can gather that Hitler held Rudel in very high esteem, since he allowed very few people to publicly disagree with him or express their true thoughts in his presence-- as Rudel often did. Knowing full well that Germany had lost the war, Rudel had the audacity near the end of the conflict to ask Hitler why Germany couldn't surrender to the Western Allies in order to continue their fight against the Soviet Union unhindered. The fact that Hitler took the time to patiently explain to Rudel why this wasn't an option for Germany further demonstrates the astonishing respect Hitler must have had for him. Any other military officer in Germany mentioning inconvenient truths in front of Hitler at this point in time--hero or no--would have been quickly hauled away and shot for defeatism. To this day, Hans Ulrich Rudel remains the most decorated combat pilot of any nation in the history of warfare. Rudel was, beyond a doubt, one of the toughest, bravest, and most charismatic human beings produced by our species. He was an incredibly skilled pilot supremely successful at what he did, and his incomparable exploits on the Eastern Front make these memoirs a compelling read. It is for these reasons that I recommend this book to all readers regardless of political beliefs, religious affiliation, or any moral reservations due to Rudels unrepentant allegiance to Nazi Germany and the person of Adolf Hitler.
Great book. Truly an amazing story. I expected it to be pro Nazi based on what I'd heard about Rudel, but I found it to be a story of a aviator fighting for his country. His disdain for "Ivan" is obvious but I'm sure it is common for a soldier to feel the same about his enemy.It's interesting to hear his internal struggles in his mind as in the time where he had one cannon jammed and one round in the other cannon while he was engaging "Ivan" tanks defended by veteran antiaircraft gunners.Or the time when he was in a dog fight with a "hero of Russia"Or the time when he landed 30 miles behind enemy lines to rescue downed aviators from his squadron (as he did on numerous occasions) and was unable to take off again.I find it shameful that a soldier on the allies side stole his logbook that had every sortie described in detail for a souvenir. Imagine the book that could have been written from that! Hopefully some day the logbook will be recovered and published.
A very straight-forward and simply told story. Rudel was Germany's premier Stuka pilot of the war. He flew over 2500 missions, destroyed over 500 Russian tanks, and did this all while flying an outdated, practically obsolete aircraft. Rudel is unapologetic about his support for the German cause, unlike many, he never hid his faith and support of Hitler, during the war or after. Rudel was one of Hitler's favorite heroes, he was awarded his decorations by the Fuhrer himself on numerous occasions. Ordered not to continue flying, he disobeyed the orders and continued to fly combat missions, even after losing a leg!If you ever wondered how the German army managed to hold out so long on the Eastern Front against the overwhelming superiority of the Russian war machine, you should read this book.
Rudel was seen as an odd character because he didn't drink or smoke. His only vice was whipped cream. He was a self-described slow learner, but he gradually caught on and proceeded to wreak havoc on the Soviets. Perhaps even more exciting than his tales of T-34 destruction are his Stuka rescue attempts behind enemy lines. The German high command had to invent new medals to give him!My favorite parts of his book were taxing the Stuka down the highway in heavy fog and demonstrating his anti-tank cannons to a group of school children who were "keen as mustard" to see his Stuka in action.It's a shame that some of Rudel's post-war activities have tarnished an otherwise brilliant career as a pilot. However, none of that is covered here in Stuka Pilot.
The author's greatest asset is also his greatest liability, as a writer. He's entirely passionate about his story. That means he communicates it with energy and color, it also means he is fairly narrow in his interpretation of events. It was interesting to see his feelings evolve over the course of the story, yet his underlying love for his country and his role as a pilot never wavers.
Loved this book! A lot of action and not boring. I wish his meetings with Goring, Hitler and Von Bulow were more detailed though. I believe this man was addicted to flying. He flew for the love of his country, yes! However, and this is what made him special, his love for flying and racking up “kills†is what kept him in the air I believe? Maybe a few lines about his family are mentioned, so not much there. If the action wasn’t so great I would’ve give it 4 stars because of the lack of pre-war, family and friends info. Could’ve had a few more pics and maps but overall it’s great and deserves 5 stars! Highly recommend! I’m reading the Erich Hartmann book now to continue the Luftwaffe theme.

I read this book a few years ago when a friend loaned it to me, suggesting I read the sex poems as a way to free myself up in composing and revising my own. Those poems are in Part 2, and there are four parts, full of the rich, family themes and personal details characteristic of Sharon Olds's other books. I am so glad to own the book now, so I can go back to favorite, vivid poems about her lovers, kids, parents, and others in which she recreates experience in order to better understand why things fell out the way they did. I love how she is able to mix regret with inevitability, as if, as bad as things got in her family life, growing up, there was no way to prevent them. For example, she re-imagines "My Parents' Wedding Night, 1937" as a scary, bloody experience, full of foreboding: "The war / had not yet begun, they lay and slept / in blood and peace, no one knew what was coming."Olds gathers her own identity from imagining her parents and explores her children's identities with poems about them; the book is also dedicated to her son and daughter, which, I confess, surprised me a bit, since that Part 2 is pretty darn open about sexual matters! I guess she feels they can handle it, and, hey, they are older now, anyway, than they appear in several of the poems. We can watch them grow up in her poems, in fact! Over all, her poems have been an inspiration to me as a writer, and she is one of my favorite poets!
Sharon Olds is a good poet and these are some of her best poems. Fans of poetry should have this one in their collections.

I rarely post book reviews, but am so unhappy to see a narrow-minded group of (apparently) personal acquaintances of one puritanical reviewer dragging the book's rating down that I have to help rectify the situation.I love these poems. They are deeply personal, but with imagery and characterization so profound that almost any reader (except a reactionary who cannot bear to hear about raw human intimacy) will connect with them. This is one of the poetry volumes that I reach for most often.
Raw, deeply intimate, stirring poetry. Sharon Olds is a genius.
The poems themselves are wonderfully well-written (it is Sharon Olds, after all). Many of them I love, maybe 75%. But again, there is the recurring theme in most of her books of genitalia/sex/having babies that gets predictable and kind of old and tired after a while. Some of the poems like "First" are just gross, gross erotica, tmi and not something I want to read about. However, there are others like "High School Senior" which are very good and shows her talent where it can be used well. It is great when she shows what she can do when she goes outside the old sex zone.
Sharon Olds work is always well-crafted and honest. Shocking to some, perhaps. (Evidently it does disturb Catherine Ross, whose anti Sharon Olds crusade from April of this year is so transparent--each of her neg reviews written in the same voice, though supposedly penned by different reviewers.) As a man, I have always had a great respect for Olds' writing, her views into the world and her ability to somehow transform pain from the past into something greater and more life-affirming. You will love this book, unless you are profoundly prudish.
I enjoyed this book for several reasons - Olds' poetry is brilliant without being haughty or laiden with archaic vocabulary or tired style. Her straightforward honesty coupled with her conciseness makes her poetry easy to read. Such honesty and conciseness are easy to "overdo" or do wrong. Olds avoids both such mistakes. She is honest without being brutal or giving the reader a sense that they are recieving too much information and she is concise without being too brief and leaving the reading wanting more. Her style tells the reader exactly what she means to say and leaves us feeling as if we have recieved the perfect dose of poetry.

Once again, Lora Irish provides a wide variety of patterns, with great instruction, for relief carving. My only problem is that I'm afraid I'm going to run out of wall space!By the way, this book is much superior to the more recently published "Great Patterns" book that simply repeats some of Ms. Irish's patterns, and adds some mediocre patterns obviously produced by less talented people.
Nice book of patterns which will give me inspiration for creating patterns for my gourds. Nice quality. Great pictures and instructions. Patterns can be used for wood burning and carving. Great addition to my crafting book collection.
This book will keep you carving for months. I had got this book at the library and knew I just had to have it. Also has great patterns for woodburing. This is another book I shared at my carving group and 3 people also purschased it. I have bought 2 ,one for myself and 1 for a friend as a gift. A must have book
I carved a long time ago in school and I have missed it now that I am retired and thought I would have time on my hands, I thought I would take it up again. The book helps to bring back the memories of my school days.
Although I do primarily woodcarving, this book has other types of projects as well. There are mostly woodcarving projects, but there is also a sprinkling of craft projects, such as a decorated box and a quilt. Easy to follow instructions and well thought out content.
Excellent publication. Great tutorial, Use it often and well.
Bought as a gift, but I'd love to have it too.
