My boys (age 4 and 7) like minecraft and enjoyed reading this book. But I read it out loud to my younger son and there was pretty much a typo on every page. Like "the're" or "heep"....they even spelled Matthew wrong and put "mathhew" on one page. When we read it we each had a pencil in hand it was like a game to see who could find the next error. Honest.The story is ok, but it's very, very poorly edited. In fact I'm not sure if anyone read it through before publishing. HA! If they had someone spend 15-20 min. editing it would have been a little better. Poor spelling, poor grammar, a lot of inconsistencies. Otherwise...3 stars. Notch bless you for trying. Next time get an editor perhaps.....
As others have mentioned, this book is riddled with errors. I bought it to encourage my son to read, too - this may inspire him to be a copy editor! I agree with the other reviewers that the story itself is dull and the writing is awkward, in addition to having issues with the duplicate panels and such. The typeface is also ridiculously small. I hope the next edition is better; there are so many other quality graphic novels and comic books that I will check out first, though. This one earns 2 stars instead of 1 for holding my little guy's attention.
So I have never read the comic but it has helped my 3rd grader take up an interested in reading. That makes it a winner in my book :)
I couldn't decide whether to give this book a one star or a two start. I was so disappointed in the book. There were so many errors in the book, spelling and duplicate panels! My 10 yr old didn't like the book either. He loves Minecraft! But the story wasn't well thought out. It was so obvious that this book wasn't even edited. Nobody proof-read this book before publishing! I like that the pictures were in Minecraft. That was unique, but that's about all. A major disappointment. Don't waste your money. I liked one posters comments about going through the book with your child and seeing who could catch the mistakes first!!! =)
Bought it for my little girl and she loves everything Minecraft. This item is probably selling because people are happy their little kids like it, but as an adult, I expected more content rather than living off the Minecraft hype. Totally not worth it.if you think that all that matters is if your kids like it, then if it sold for $20 you'd still have no regret. You have been warned!!!
The price is outrageous for what you get. It is only 50 pages. Being a "Collection" I expected it to be close to as thick as the Minecraft graphic novels we've purchased for almost half the price. My kid enjoyed reading it for about 20 minutes and then she was done. Waste of $11 to me.
This was a great cute little book that my 6 and 8 year old read a few times. 3 months later though, my children have forgotten about it. Doesn't this happen with all things at their she though?
It got my non reader to read something....so that alone gets it 5 stars

I thought I wasn't going to like this one, but it won me over. The can't-stop-reading impulse kicked in about half-way through the book.First of all, at first it seemed like there wasn't much of a connection between the two main characters, but as the story progressed their reasons for liking each other developed and I actually ended up finding them to be one of Gist's best fictional match-ups.Yes, the bird thing was annoying and Georgie was a quirky character somewhat along the lines of Essie from the Trouble books, but she wasn't unlikeable. She obviously had a lot of spunk and personality which is a nice change from the damsel-in-distress type. And Luke became more and more loveable throughout the story.The physical details were not too much, a small bit toned down from other Gist novels. There was more of a plot beyond the sexual tension.All in all, I ended up very satisfied with the story and looking forward to getting my hands on the last few of this author's novels that I haven't devoured yet.
I love Deeanne Gist’s novels, but this one may be my favorite! Georgie Gail, the heroine in the novel is humorous without being goofy. She’s a feminist who recognizes the harmony and God given differences between male and female, neither are better, just different. But together we are better. It’s charming with some heart stopping adventure and a little bit of love too. Bravo!
I will preface this review by saying that I do not rate any book five stars unless I intend to read it so many times the binding is falling apart :) That being said a four-star review is a great read by my standards. I enjoy authors such as Lori Wick, Francine Rivers, and others. I recently discovered Deeanne Gist and fell in love with Maid for a Match. The research and character development in Mrs. Gist's books is wonderful and each time I buy a new book I can't wait to dive in.Love on the Line is no exception to my description of Mrs. Gist. The main characters are both believable and like-able. The plot line is complex enough to keep even the most avid romance reader interested while not being so complex that it must be read in one sitting. As in other books by Mrs. Gist the male and female leads are not the only characters and the sub-plots in this particular book are wonderful.My only negative comment to Love on the Line would be that it was hard to get into at first because of the amount of time that was spent on birds. Further into the book I realized that part of the bird sidebar would have come from Mrs. Gist's devotion to being accurate to the period and therefore the issue would have been an important issue at the time just as bicycling was important to Courting Trouble and Deep in the Heart of Trouble (two of my favorites by Deeanne Gist).A wonderful book overall and I look forward to the next book by Deeanne Gist.
I really enjoyed Love On The Line. Starting off with a great promise of a fun roller coster of a love tale with a telephone operator and a Texas Ranger. But it is so much more than that - Georgie is the aforementioned switchboard operator and Lucius Laudrum is the ranger but their first meeting isn't one to remember. It involves Gerogie being involved in a train heist and feeling more sympathy for the robber than that of the lawmaker.Their next meeting is with Lucius posing as Luke Palmer - a linesman for the phone company or Troubleman.The rest of the tale takes us on a fun ride of these two never really figuring each other out - especially Georgie. And it's a fun ride.On a negative side -Geogie's personality can grate sometimes. Her almost obsessive compulsion around birds and understandably the use of those precious friends as decoration for ladies hats. While commendable it did become a little irritating as the story progressed.Gladly the story does wind it up a gear as we neared the conclusion and it had just enough twists and turns to keep my attention. In the whole, a delightful story which will gladly full a dull afternoon with no trouble at all.
Deeanne Gist is in my top three of favorite authors. I have loved each and every book of hers that I have read. Including this one. The first paragraph had my attention and kept me reading.I have never read a book where someone is so into birds which made this story kind of silly yet set it apart from all the rest. Add to that a switchboard operator as well and you have a unique mix in a character.What lady doesn't want to read about a Texas Ranger?! I admit, I enjoyed Luke Palmer's story. What a twist at the end of the story that I hadn't guessed until over half way through the book. My guess was correct though I won't mention what about. You'll have to grab a copy and see for yourself.What I loved about the story is the strength of Georgie and Luke's unwavering faith. They totally trust that God is in control, and that He will take care of all that is going on. This was refreshing because there is normally one person who has doubts.
This is one of my "go-to" authors for romance. As usual, the research was amazing and the romance was not the peck on the last page. Their relationship wasn't entirely predictable though - and her story and characters were somewhat off the beaten path as well. I loved the twists and turns.Luke has to keep secrets. His character has been chasing one criminal for a long time and could easily have become another Captain Ahab chasing his very own Moby Dick. His back story makes him so much more interesting. It's hilarious when Georgie makes fun of his "real" self to him. I could picture that scene vividly in my mind --- always a sign of a great book.Georgie has high standards and ideals. She is a feminist, loves to read, and values education. She has an obsession with birds and fights to stop their parts from being used on hats. This causes division within the town and much of the action in the latter part of the book.This was a great read and reinforced why I keep pre-ordering all her books. It's on the border between 4.5 to 5 so I'll round up. :o)

It's a good study guide that guides you through the exam topics chronologically. However, it doesn't cover some of the topics in depth that will be tested in the actual exam. In fact, about 15 out of 67 questions in the 062 exam contain materials that are either never covered or only mentioned briefly in the book. It's a book that can get you started but you will need to also thoroughly read the Oracle online documentations to have a chance of passing the exams.
Brand new when bought from the used section. Highly recommended for anyone going into databases, even in databases other than Oracle. Review questions and answers are helpful.
Very clear explanations throughout the guide to Oracle 12c. Anyone can pick this up and understand how to operate the database from a DBA perspective.

Blueprint is a landmark. In this brief book, Robert Plomin distills 50 years of behavioral genetics research, much of which is based on studies he and his collaborators around the world conducted using twins separated at birth.Plomin's main findings are that virtually every trait that we care about is heritable, that what are often thought of as environmental effects are shaped by our genetic propensities, that parenting and schooling have very little effect on our capacities or personality, and that most of the traits that make us who we are result from many genes interacting with each other rather than, say, single genes for intelligence or schizophrenia or extraversion.Near the beginning of the book, Plomin introduces us to "the nature of nurture": a provocative phrase that refers to the fact that we actively shape our environments to fit our personalities rather than passively reflecting whatever environments we happen to be born into. In his words, "psychological environments are not 'out there', imposed on us passively. They are 'in here', experienced by us as we actively perceive, interpret, select, modify, and even create environments correlated with our genetic propensities" (p. 51).Plomin's findings suggest that, contrary to a view common among many academics and journalists, tweaking the environment will not equalize outcomes or interests. In fact, Plomin thinks, the more we equalize opportunities, the more noticeable heritable differences will become.To take one example, many elites spend enormous energy and time fighting over schooling. And of course access to education is important to allow those who are academically inclined to develop their talents. But, Plomin stresses, "genetic differences in children's aptitudes and appetites affect the extent to which they take advantage of educational opportunities" (p. 51). So much so that, according to Plomin, in places like the US and UK, "differences in schools do not make much of a difference in children's achievements" (p. 87).Many have noticed that wealthy and educated parents who fill their homes with books have children that are more likely to do the same. The typical story is that having books in the home or reading to children causes them to enjoy reading and perhaps boosts their IQ. Plomin suggests the reverse is true: "the socioeconomic status of parents is correlated with their children's educational and occupational outcomes. This correlation has been interpreted as if it is caused environmentally. That is, better-educated, wealthier parents are assumed to pass on privilege. Genetics turns the interpretation upside down. Socioeconomic status of parents is a measure of their educational and occupational outcomes, which are both substantially heritable" (p. 95).This does not mean that smart parents will inevitably have smart children, or that people are doomed to be just like their parents. Regression to the mean plus random genetic shuffling imply that it is impossible to predict precisely what children will be like based simply on the characteristics of their parents. Whole genome analysis of embryos will eventually give us a sense of what traits children are likely to have. But just glancing at their parents will not do the trick.The final part of Plomin's book gives an overview of "polygenic scores," a new tool that can help predict the probability of having a trait, or developing a disorder, by using information gleaned from genome wide association studies (GWAS). Polygenic scores, Plomin predicts, will eventually be used by people who are at risk of a disease to alter their environments and behavior in ways that minimize these risks. Still, if Plomin is right, we may be able to do less than many people think to fundamentally transform ourselves. We might have to learn to accept that even if DNA isn't destiny, genetics powerfully sculpts who we are.One criticism of the book is that Plomin occasionally leaves us with a sense that education doesn't matter much. In one sense this is true: it doesn't change our basic capacities or predispositions. But in another sense it is false: a core part of our individual identity is a function of our epistemic and social environment. We think differently than our great grandparents did in part because of the scientific revolution, because of laws and norms that protect or inhibit free speech, and because we either have access to books by Plato and Darwin, or are stuck in a society governed by religious fanatics. Even if education and culture don't change our basic abilities or personality, and what we are exposed to is partly a function of what we *want to* be exposed to, the environment can change a core part of our identity, and has the power to make our lives go better or worse.
This book discusses an important topic and one that should inform our policy decisions. Unfortunately it does not and this topic is generally taboo. The bottom line, supported by massive amounts of evidence by the way, is that the most important systematic influences on who we are and what we become our our genes.I give the author high marks for the courage to write this book and the first part of it was really outstanding. I was a little disappointed in the second part because I don't think the author's evidence support some of his conclusions. As of yet the correlations are not strong enough and there's way too much individual variation. To his credit Plomin admits and even shows in graphs the massive amount of overlap between individuals of different groups, but then he makes statements that seem to ignore what he just demonstrated.For example he says based on DNA alone you could predict that he is tall. His polygenic score for height is in the 90th percentile. And he is tall, however his own scatterplot shows a significant portion of the individuals in the 90th percentile of polygenic scores for height around the normal range. And there are plenty of people even below normal. So what you can predict from his DNA alone is that it is more likely than not that he is tall but not with a great deal of confidence. A significant portion of the people in his percentile are not tall. The same problem runs through much of the second part of his book.I do happen to believe that his general theme is correct and that EVENTUALLY polygenic scores will become much more predictive as the data accumulates. When he talks about how genes are responsible for approximately 50% of psychological traits, and how even a significant part of the so-called environmental effect is driven by genes, and finally how most of the rest of the environmental impacts are not systematic and unknown his analysis is outstanding and has powerful implications. This is important and we need to come to terms with it. We just aren't there yet with the predictive power of polygenic scores. And he way over plays its predictive power at the present time.Despite this flaw, overall I think this is an outstanding work and it's very important. I wish this information was much more widely known and accepted because it has important policy implications. I can't give it five stars but I do highly recommend this book.
Very insightful and readable. I wish he had responded to some critiques of twins studies but otherwise there is more than enough making this book worth a read. Pay attention since this topic will become increasingly important with time.

In this third installation of the Undreaming Chronicles, Alex Marchand brilliantly combined "A Course in Miracles" and Halloween themes to explore the unconscious mind and how the ego permeates perception of a universe. It's dark, fun, and ultimately enlightening. I'd say it's not for the faint of heart, but it made me remember I have no heart; only Spirit.
Excelent reminder of how our unconscious runs our lives and how we can take control of repressed memories in our unconscious through the process of forgiveness.
I am absolutely delighted with these books. Best thing after the Course itself.

Into the Unconscious is Book 3 of The Undreaming Chronicles. Like the previous two installments, it takes a journey, ala Dante’s Inferno, through the subconscious.As in previous works, Professor M draws from his formidable knowledge of many diverse disciplines to demonstrate how the ego is at work in all aspects of our existence. Once again he uses his uncanny ability to connect what otherwise would seem to be unrelated subjects in order to reflect how the ego is keeping us trapped in the illusion. It is fascinating to me how he is able to see how the dots connect. One of the primary reasons I read his work is to see what he has come up with.Like the previous two UC books, there is process weaved into the storyline in volume 3. (As opposed, in my option, to the textbook approach in The Universe is a Dream and The Universe is Virtual). I like the process approach as it has a beginning, middle and end, it helps me to comprehend the concepts Professor M is presenting.What is unique about this installment is that Professor M demonstrates how the ego impacts the socio-economic aspect of our culture. His approach is gutsy and provocative (and reminiscent of two earlier works: Dissolving Dollars: Exposing The Debt-Based Insanity Behind Modern Money and Beyond the Government-Haunted World: A Comic Guide to Voluntaryism, Free Markets, and the Non-Aggression Principle). The trip isn’t necessary pretty either, but nothing involving the ego is pretty. There is some shock value here, but it is contextual and non-gratuitous. He is fearless in his approach, and doesn’t hesitate to show the reader his vulnerabilities in his own anecdotal battle with the ego, even if means going without his manhood. (You will have to read the book if you want to know what it meant by that.) There is an irony here that Professor M is obviously very intelligent and talented, but isn’t pretentious in an attempt to leave the reader feeling stupid. Ironically enough, he doesn’t use his ego to explain the ego.Even though this book has a Halloween-theme, we are reminded that we don’t need scary costumes or horror stories/movies. The scariest thing in existence is the ego, and that is an illusion.I purchased the .mobi version of this book.
This is an interesting look at the author's unconscious mind. I enjoyed the overall message and the drawings were fantastic.Unfortunately some of the opinions on politics feel a bit egotistical to me. When I load up my oneness engine and look at the same problems that the author does I arrive at different conclusions. I feel that the author's intentions are pure and that he is explaining his interpretation of the message as unbiased as he is able to be. But some of it still feels like christian dogma to me, dogma the author has tried really hard to purge from his psyche, but which nonetheless creeps up here and there.I realize that in some respects I am being judgmental or perhaps misinterpreting or misunderstanding some of his views. I have no desire to project guilt on the material, but at times it does feel like at times it has a bit of a holier-than-thou vibe to it that wasn't as present in the previous installments.
