I got the paperback and I'm here to tell you right now not to get it. It is a copy in black and white stuck with a cheap paperback print of a book cover where it even says in the top left-hand corner of the book that it is not to leave (at least on mine) the subcontinent of India. Just rent or buy an American hardback and skip this mess. It was cheaply packaged - wrapped in paper with tape wrapped around some of it - and arrived half-crushed. It's missing tables that come in really handy as a student, and I'm not sure that it really is all the 9th edition. Be very cautious!
Totally awesome had everything I need to cover the materials I was studying in class.
What can I say. It's a typical required book for Engineering Majors. It has some pretty cool examples in the beginning, but towards the end it's a little tedious and looses touch with real world applications.It also does not do a great job at explaining shear/moment diagrams. Some other books give great examples and charts about distributed loading. That area is touched upon heavily in the EIT, or FE, exams.
It cheap and thats why I bought it. For the price its great, but shipping is from India and will take a while. If you need it quick, dont waste your time. Has page numbers but no way to know what chapter your on. But for $20, it will work!
Note: this is the soft cover version. I noticed someone complaining that they didn't know so I thought I'd throw that in.That said, since it is the soft cover version, it does not come with the handy spreadsheet listing known moduli that are kinda needed to do the problems. On top of that, the book is in black and white. Now for the most part this doesn't change a thing, but there are several problems that are quite hard to read because of this.Upside is that it's significantly cheaper than the hardcover!

It's just the same of the original book. Not color though but do the same job! Helped me a lot! Oh, forgot to say that is Hibbeler, so is always great!
Seems to be an accurate duplication of the much more expensive hardcover version. However, some important differences to note are: -The entire contents are black and white (a graph referring to a red line and a blue line is difficult to understand) -There aren't any reference formulas or moduli in the front or back cover of the book. (several homework problems require this information.)

I had reached out to the seller as my journal had arrived with some minor damage. It was still usable; and I was so happy about how this journal is set up to make getting started easy, and staying consistent doable. Anyone can commit to 5 minutes a day. However, what I found even more impressive was the seller's response to my correspondence. They not only offered to replace the journal for me, but because there was a brief delay in their getting back to me they also allowed me to pick an additional item free of charge. I have to tell you that I was not upset about the timing in their getting back with me at all, and sincerely appreciated their commitment to ensuring customer satisfaction. I did not actually expect a replacement journal, no less anything additional. Many times businesses do not really "care"; they just do what they feel needs to be done in order to keep their ratings up and side step negative feedback. But the outreach I received clearly showed that they truly value their customers; and customer satisfaction is a priority. I highly recommend this company, and this journal. They have made a Raving Fan of me!
First the negative: It was mailed in a manilla envelope, around the holidays, which means my regular mail carrier is on vacation and we have horrible subs who don't respect people's property. As a result, they folded/bent the envelope and crammed it into my mail slot, instead of knocking on my door to hand the package to me. The cover was bent and crumpled and that really sucks because I LOVED the cover design and wanted to take pics of it to put on my Instagram to show my followers. Now I can only show the inside of the book. Ok, so that was not the fault of the manufacturer, but the person who packed my book in the envelope is just as responsible as the mailman.Now, here's why I gave it 5 stars: It's a nice sized book, with large print (which I need since hitting middle age), and thick paper so that your entries shouldn't bleed through. There is ample line space to answer the questions, but if you need more, you could always photocopy the pages and enlarge them, to put in a binder, and then just write on college ruled paper.It's not JUST a gratitude diary though... it's so much more. Just flipping through the pages, I see topic starters like, "music I enjoyed today" or "food I enjoyed today" or "people I enjoyed spending time with" etc... so that's where the diary aspect comes into play because it gives you the opportunity to record memories, not just make gratitude lists. These writing prompts keep it fresh. The very first activity asks you to list things you are thankful for but don't always take time to appreciate it and for me, this is a challenge because I've been using gratitude programs for several years and have retrained my brain to look for the positives in even the worst situation. So I'd like to think that I appreciate everything that happens, even the bad stuff because I've found ways to see the positive.... so the fact that this first question actually has me stumped, and searching, means that the book is thought provoking and forces you to be mindful of what you're writing. I love that.I'm really looking forward to starting this one. I plan to begin using it on January 1st. It might have been on sale when I bought it, my order total with tax came to roughly 7.00 and based on how useful this will be, I think it's an excellent value. I also like that the book isn't religious. At least, if it is, I haven't found it yet. I am an athiest who believes in the Gaia Hypothesis. Often times, gratitude is tied to religion, but it doesn't have to be. And from what I've seen, this book would appeal to those who are spiritual but not religious. Now, if I see the word God anywhere in this book once I actually start using it, I will come back here and change my review, as well as lower the stars to 3. LOL.
I practice being grateful every day. I saw this journal and really didn't know what to expect when I ordered it. Opened it up for the first time this morning and started filling the first couple pages out and just wow! Writing the things down that you are truly grateful for and just acknowledging them is truly powerful! I recommend this to anyone! I have already bought three more for some family and friends. Absolutely amazing little journal!
This has really been helpful in getting myself out of the slump I am in by appreciating the little things every day. I also like the 30 day reflection so you can track your progress.
Simple and to the point. After a bit of introspective questions in the very beginning, there are two daily queries that take only five minutes or less to answer. Amazing how just that much can help put things into perspective and see the good in each day. There are also inspirational quotes throughout, a couple pages of reflection and goals, plus space for thoughts or notes.
To help lift my spirits I needed to remember how blessed I am this daily look and writing helps allot I love the color of the book . I am buying 4 more these also make wonderful gifts for a resonable price PEACE LOVE HIPPYFLOWERS

(p. x)Basic to the argument of the book is the difference between the "old tolerance" and the "new." The old tolerance meant that while you disagreed with someone, you "tolerated" them, and believed that everyone should be free to express what they think. Underpinning this was the belief that there really is such a thing as "truth" and that free discourse was an important aspect in finding and exploring it. The "new" tolerance, in contrast, starts with the basic premise that in matters of morality and belief, there is no "truth," only opinions. Tolerance in the new sense means never saying anything that criticizes another person's beliefs.The problem is both in the basic premise, and in the hypocritical way in which this new definition of "tolerance" is applied selectively against Christians, or whoever is labeled "intolerant," in the new sense.This is scholarly, logical, nuanced, and thoroughly thought out. Carson cites dozens of real life examples in his thorough exploration of the subject. In the end, this book is a devastating critique, on multiple levels, of the flimsy but increasingly venerated "new tolerance." A good book for critical thinking, and analyzing a key cornerstone of modern culture and public discourse.
D.A. Carson does a beautiful job of critiquing our current culture's politically correct agenda that insists on a tolerance that is really intolerant. He defines the old tolerance and the new tolerance. He notes that the old tolerance is still defined on Encarta in a search for the verb "to tolerate" it includes "ACCEPT EXISTENCE OF DIFFERENT VIEWS to recognize other people's right to have different beliefs or practices without an attempt to suppress them.... When we turn to Encarta's treatment of the corresponding noun `tolerance' however, a subtle change appears: 1. ACCEPTANCE OF DIFFERENT VIEWS the accepting of the differing views of other people, e.g., in religious and political matters, and fairness toward the people who hold these views." (pg 3) In other words, the new tolerance requires the belief that other views are as true as your own. And you are intolerant if you don't agree.Carson details the history of tolerance and gives numerous examples of the new tolerance's intolerance. For example, the Boy Scouts of America have endured pressure and many law suits for two decades to admit girls, to admit atheists, and to allow avowed homosexuals to serve in leadership. The Supreme Court rulled in their favor - yet the fight continues led by the ACLU and gay rights groups.Carson elaborates on the above issues and more. As Christians we need to understand the intolerance of tolerance so we can speak up winsomely and entice others to face the moral problems this causes in our culture. I'm including a few quotations further inform the readers of this review."Muslim thought runs along quite different lines to Christian wrestlings over the relationship between church and state. Where Muslims are in control, Muslim thought about non-Muslims in the society is quite clear. The choices are three: kill them (under certain circumstances) convert them, or dhimmitude." (lower status.) Pg 119"While the secularist wants all other religions to retreat into the private sphere, he or she insists that secularists have the right to control the public sphere because they are right - completely unaware that they are trying to impose their worldview on others who disagree with it." Pg 120"Relativism is the view that no one standard of true and false, right and wrong, good and bad, beautiful and ugly exists that is valid for everyone." Pg 132"The new tolerance swamps penetrating discussion about truth and morality: tolerance is widely perceived to be more important and more enduring than either. The result is a greater tendency to believe lies and to come adrift in immorality." Pg 138
D.A. Carson has written an extremely well informed and pertinent book in "The Intolerance of Tolerance." The crux of Carson's concise and well conceived argument is that modern society's emphasis on tolerance has warped to the point that to disagree with someone is now considered intolerant. Where before everyone had a right to not be persecuted for their views, now it is intolerant not to accept that every person's views are equally valid. Casron details the sort of intellectual and moral cul-de-sac that western culture has found itself in, where criticism of others views has become essentially taboo. Perhaps the part of this book that has stuck with me the most is a brief aside where Carson analyzes why many immigrants to western nations are no longer assimilating, and he makes the intriguing point that, since Western culture has become so all inclusive there is no real reason for immigrants to assimilate, since their own cultures are held as equally valid under western tolerance. That is just one of many points, but suffice to say that Carson's book is remarkably prescient and crystallizes many of the issues surrounding the growing heavy hand of tolerance.

This book will take you back in time to the "Intimidator" years with ole Dale, his good points and his bad ones. Lots of funny stuff along with the sad things. As the title implies, this is a collection of what many people have said and there is a lot sameness in relating similar events. A good walk through NASCAR history with Dale Sr. Only for the die-hard race fan/Dale fan.

Perfect but then again any thing with Dale Sr, is.
Although I enjoyed the story of Dale Sr this a more a collection of quotes from people who knew him.

I bought this book years ago when I was a newly made Master Mason, and after reading thought it was a nice book. Recently, I was asked to be part of the Education Committee for our Valley, so I picked this book up again, and was blown away by the difference a few years makes when reading this book.If you are a Master Mason, and have not yet read this book, or have been a Master Mason, get this book, and read it. It is 90 pages long, but take your time to understand what is in t his book. It is a treasure trove of knowledge for the Master Mason. I cannot recommend this book enough, and hope that you get from this book, what I have.
This book was written to help the new Mason understand what Masonic symbolism means and to assist the Mason in his growth in Freemasonry by discussing things that may seem foreign or go unexplained within the lodge. Allen begins with an explanation of pictures and symbolism at large and how we have used symbolism through the ages to help to explain larger concepts. He asserts that it is symbolism that sets Freemasonry apart from other fraternities and accounts for its appeal.From this point the book moves into an examination of the symbols that are used in the Entered Apprentice degree such as the cable tow, hoodwink and slipper and later discusses the meaning of circumambulation, relief and truth; leading up to the more important lessons in fellowship, overcoming obstacles, obedience and commitment. And lastly how everything is designed around truth, wisdom, charity, temperance and prudence.Allen moves through the symbols that we may see in the Lodge and discusses their Masonic significance; the altar, the great and lesser lights, working tools and decor of the lodge and onward through the symbols of the second and third degrees of Freemasonry explaining how these represent the various stages of life.We further hear of the principle parts of the first temple, see the symbols related to it and hear of how they relate to our journey in Freemasonry.Lastly, we learn the Hiram story and about the use of a sprig of Acacia.The book explains many of the ancient symbols that we don't see used in Blue Lodge today but still maintain their Masonic significance and culminates with an understanding of brotherly love that binds our fraternity for all time.Although this book appears to be but a thin volume, do not underestimate the wealth of information that is packed into it. "The Craft and its Symbols" explains all of the images, symbols and rites that you'll encounter in the lodge or on the Internet and how they relate to our journey as Freemasons.
I became a Mason while overseas and had a hard time finding a lodge when I came home. Due to this I had a couple of years where I didn’t study at all. This book helped me jump back into things, and brush up on my symbols and meanings. I think this book would be a fantastic gift for a newly raised Master Mason. It arrived earlier than expected and the cover is beautiful.
Very good book. Don't let the size of the book fool you, even though it's short, it's packed with further light in masonry. This is a great book for a new master mason. Very easy read as well. I will have to look further into this aurthors work. I will end up reading this book more then once.
Terrifically informative and detailed. Crams much more insight than you would think possible in so thin a volume. Like cliffs notes for Duncan's Ritual but no secrets, grips, etc. Very glad I added it to my growing Masonic library.
As a new Master Mason this book provided me with information that I missed during my initiation, passing and raising to becoming a Master Mason. Not always the easiest of reads, the messages were clearly conveyed and provoked lots of thinking on my part. This book should be a mandatory read for all new brothers.
My purchase of this book was to help understand the many esoteric symbols that make up Freemasonry, and it does a fine job.
This is a must have and a great gift to give. A brother receiving this will be forever thankful. I ordered from Macoy Publishing & Masonic Supply Co. The book was mint. No bent corners, no scratches.

The second in this series about mobile cities that survive by cannibalizing other cities and towns.The character development is lacking greatly as is story continuity.The idea of the post apocalyptic world is interesting but begs to be written better. Could also benefit from more consistent detailing of environment and writing structure over all.This sequel actually feels like it was written in a different way than the first and I’m not sure why, couldn’t quite place it. Maybe it was just the sloppy time jump. Either way, I’ll only finish this series for completion necessity.
Predator's Gold takes place in the same world as Mortal Engines. Taking the chance to expand on the wonderful world of moving cities from the first book, Predator's Gold manages to carry over that sense of wonder from the first book and this time, the author takes more time to let the reader get more familiar with locations so they feel more real and alive than in the first book.If only he'd done the same with the characters. However, returning characters Hester and Tom arrive from the last book and barely develop through the course of this one, while the only new character to have a strong character arc is Freya, who unfortunately starts off so unlikable its a struggle to find her parts enjoyable through half the book. If you're a fan of fascinating worlds and unique locales, definitely worth a read. If you're looking for solid and relatable characters, you may want to steer clear.
Went to see the movie and decided to read the follow up books and have completed book 2 and 3 interesting characters but now an entirely plausible plot. I suppose if you suspend any notion of reality or common sense you can get to a world where cities have become mobile but I cannot imagine an environmental or evolutionary impetus that could lead to such a scenario. Maybe I should go back and read the original book perhaps there the author explains the rational for mountain sized communities to roam about the Earths surface. Glad I saw the movie and ok with reading the fsecond two books but now I'm done.
the Mortal Engines world is pretty fascinating, but it's central hero, Heated Shaw is often quite difficult to like. Flawed heroes are not a bad thing, but the author does seem to delight in trying to turn the reader against his primary protagonist.In this book, the author seems to make Heated Shaw, a capable street smart, hardened operator in a very harsh world behave in an almost naively stupid way to get her to the next place she needs to go in the story. I think there were more reasonable options for the author to achieve the narrative end without making Hester behave in a way so out of character.
This was a frustrating read. I was slightly disappointed by some things (how easy some things turned out to be and the quickness of the pace because of the uneasiness and lack of what I would consider serious conflict) and found other bits interesting (descriptions of places and items, some character growth that wasn't forced). I understand this is a YA series but it lacks something... I still enjoy it though, it's different.
A worthwhile read in this series of books. I think the first book was more engaging and kept me wanting to read more late at night. But that might also have had something to do with the novel story line of city’s on wheels. Characters in this book are certainly realistic and developed just as well as in the first book.
A worthy continuation of Mortal Engines. I'm mildly miffed by the fate of one of the villains, but I fear that it was all too realistic an end. Such is life.
In this day of major science fiction content, it is incredible that you can find a totally original story concept. Well this book is just that!! I can't frcken wait to read the rest. I have them in my que ready to go so instead of waiting my time here. I am going to delve right in!LaterPeace
