I purchased the e-book copy of this text book for my Fluid Mechanics class this semester. The chapters are all in the same order and format as in the physical book and each page is the exact same, to my knowledge. So far I have learned quite a bit of Fluid Mechanics, but I still have much of the book to go since I am only 3 weeks into the semester. I've found the chapters to be fairly easy to read and understand and have not found any problems with the practice problems that I have completed. My only complaint about the e-book copy is that some of the tables and figures that are normally in the front of the physical book have been moved to the back of the e-book and are a little difficult to find. This wouldn't be as big of a problem if the problems did not require these tables and figures as often as they do. All in all the e-book beats buying the textbook at the school store for $200.
I had to buy this book for a course in fluid mechanics last semester, which turned out to be one of my favorite courses. That was due mainly to the fact that I had an amazing professor, but it was largely supported by the ease of use of this book. Reference sheets were quick and easy to use, and proved themselves invaluable when I had to look up numbers or equations in stressful times. The presentation of the material is very clear, and written in a way that is easy to understand so you can focus on the theory and the ideas, not on running to get a dictionary to look up big, complex words and their meanings (...not that an engineer would own a dictionary...or know how to use a non-internet-based one, lol).WARNGING! CUIDADO! My only real point to pick with this book is that someone did a poor job editing it. The layout of the chapter problems is such that the diagrams for some are on different pages than the accompanying text, or located several problems before or after in the most awkward positions, meaning you really have to pay attention to the figure number to prevent drawing the wrong picture/information (which I have done several times).And, to make matters worse, some problems actually don't have all the info needed to complete them! Several problems had info cut off, or just not present, in their diagrams.While those are just temporary, minor annoyances and shouldn't deter anyone from buying this book, just be aware that they are present. That's the only reason this got a 4 instead of a 5.
I will preface this by saying that I haven't gone out and searched every fluid mechanics book to find something better. I never deal with fluids and I never plan to deal with them again. The only thing I found that was useful from this book was Bernouli's equation, but you can learn everything on that topic from free references rather than paying for this book. I found the book to be confusing, poorly worded, and lacking in real-world examples and example problems. The text is boring and found in abundance, and I simply don't have the attention span or the desire to read a wall of text about fluid mechanics. I got an A in the class, but it wasn't because of this book. Thank goodness I never have to pretend to care about fluids again.
I am writing this as an engineering student at Brown University, RI, USA. I think it is helpful -and less biased- when students write reviews of the books they are using.This is a well-written book that covers all the appropriate material to be taught in an introductory Fluid Mechanics course in an engineering curriculum. In my opinion, the format of every chapter is clear and gradually guides the reader to grasp the essence of the concepts included. It includes plenty of figures to illustrate several phenomena or to help derive equations. Some figures are confusing though and need to include more discussion.The Appendices of the book are clearly labeled and easy to use; this is true for figures, graphs and tables. I believe that this is very important since I used books in the past which included very unorganized tables and I couldn't figure out what I was looking for!There are many problems at the end of every chapter ranging from basic to more complex ones. Problems are grouped according the way the chapter is divided into concepts. Perhaps the book lacks general conceptual problems and/or real-life application problems, but our Professor provided this material.Overall, I would recommend this textbook to other students who are interested to get a smooth and paced introduction to Fluid Mechanics and to teachers who want to supplement their lecture with a reliable study-guide.
I took fluid mechanics as a junior with this textbook. First off, there are a surprisingly large number of errors in the book, including writing mistakes and errors in the example problems. The layout and color scheme of the text are dull and unimaginative. Despite these issues, the text overall was solid and the most important topics were well-covered. Still, considering the number of mistakes for such a late edition, I would avoid this text.
Purchased for university course. It's easy to understand and became one of my favorite text.
If you are looking for a solutions manual as the description implies this is not the text. This is a paper back fluid mechanics text in SI units and otherwise identical to the hard backed version.The phrase " Student Solutions Manual" is false advertising. The text is in good condition and for those who are looking for a cheaper and lighter text this may be the one if all SI units are tolerable.
This book was not much help to me in my course. The equations are there, but there a tons of derivations of each one which can make it confusing to pick the right one. Explanations of the basic concepts were not spectacular either.

It provides decent information on some older bottles 1800's thru about 1915, but only the rarer more expensive ones.It provides no historical information about each bottle, only a description and pricing. Also provides info on newer (vintage) bottles like Jim Beam whiskey bottles, Ezra Brooks whiskey, Avon bottles, miniature whiskey bottles, soda bottles, Violin & Banjo bottles. All the pictures are good quality and in color. If you're an average Joe (Jane) collector trying to identify a bottle that you dug up in the back yard this book probably won't help you.
Not at all what I expected. This book is not written for the weekend collector. This book is meant for someone whose income is wrapped up in buying and selling bottles. This tome does not cover the bottles that came from your great-grandmother or that neat bottle you found in the backyard when you were planting a tree. Do not waste your money if that is what you are looking for. If you want a clinical book to be able to classify bottles by the way their necks are shaped or the amount of bubbles in the glass this book will fit your needs well.
I got this book for about 75 cents plus shipping on Amazon and it is well worth the shipping and change, the color photos of the bottles are beautiful! Printed in China and I guess that is why they got the book so cheap and the great color photos printed, as color printing is not cheap in the USA.The photos of the colored glass Hutch bottle, ink bottles, old blob top sodas etc just really inspire me. Glad I got the book, the prices don't help me much but I sure enjoy the myriad of color photos.
Great history on bottle making and development. The price guide is directed towards common rare bottles, if that makes sense. There are plenty of other bottles that did not make their list. Most bottles in this book seem to be from the east coast. I wish there were more Rocky mountain region bottles.

I feel like the current application cycle has gone a lot better for me thanks in great part to this book. It's probably the best $20 I have ever spent. Dr. Hartwig does more than educate the reader about process of being a premed and then eventually a doctor. He makes you think and reflect about yourself-- your past and future--in a way that makes it easy for you figure out exactly what you want to write for the primary and secondary application essays and also what you want to say during the interviews. It's not so much that he coaches you to say the right thing, whatever that may be, but rather gets you to present yourself in the best light possible. In other words, don't treat this book as a "Dummies Guide to Med School."A little background: I was a premed with mediocre GPA and a solid MCAT. Dr. Hartwig's book navigated me in a way that I could get the committees to see my strengths and why they should select me over over great candidates. So far all 4 of my interviews have been home runs!The book is very insightful, well written, and just great to read for anyone who wants to be a physician.

Dr. Hartwig presents a concise yet thorough overview for any aspiring doctor from highschool to 4th year medical student. I had such a hard time getting into medical school, I wish I had known about this book before I started. There is a lot that goes in to the process besides just getting good grades & test scores. Becoming a doctor is a huge process and the hoops are nearly endless. Dr. Hartwig does a great job of mapping them out here and guiding you through the overwhelming process.This book won't help you ace the MCAT or USMLE. It won't teach you pharmacology or anatomy. It will make the journey from undergrad to residency and everything in-between much less daunting and intimidating. This should be required reading for any pre-med and even most medial students.

I've read the entire Sharpe series, the Archer series and the Grail Quest series, along with this one. I've thoroughly enjoyed them all. For what it's worth, the main character in each of these stories seems to me to be pretty much the same person. That's not unusual in fiction. For example, in Robert Heinlein's works, the protagonist in all of his stories strikes me to be the same person as well. That being said, there's not a great deal of character development, per se, but the protagonists are easy to like and the antagonists are easy to despise. Merlin is a little hard to figure out as you're never really sure who's side he's on. As a matter of fact, at one point he even states that he's NOT ON ANYBODY'S side and that he has his own agenda and everyone else in England is just playing a role as far as he's concerned. Still, if you like historical fiction or you're looking for a story that will totally consume you for a week or two, go with Bernard Cornwell. You won't be disappointed.
This is the second in the Arthurian trilogy as written by Bernard Cornwell. This is a must read for anyone interested in Arthurian lore; it is quite possibly the best rendition of Arthur I've ever read, and I've read more than a few sagas featuring Arthur. Most people, when they think of Arthur will either reference the Chretien de Troyes work (which did serve to revitalize interest in Arthur, and he took his inspiration from the older Welsh traditions) or the John Boorman movie, Excalibur, which was partially based on de Troyes' work. I read de Troyes' work as a kid, and then years later as an adult, I picked up a more literal translation. If I could sum that up in one word, it'd be "flowery". Small wonder that the concept of chivalry should be born from it as it tells tales of impossible feats by impossibly courteous and solicitous men who are also trained killers. Still, since the age of ten I've always wanted to be a knight and who better than a knight of the Table Round?Anyhow, as I've gotten older, my taste in literature has made a predictable curve toward more realistic fare- that is not to say that I do not love fantasy because I do- whether it is in games, movies or books, but I appreciate books (and the authors who wrote them) that at least make the attempt to tell the story from a more realistic point of view. Arthur, and his warriors, as depicted here are not the paragons of virtue as described in the aforementioned book and movie. These men are much more realistic; at times plagued by doubt and fear, they live, they love and they make war but it is the way that they do it that grabs the reader. There are no stock characters here save one, and even that one has realistic motivations and sensibilities, albeit of the bad variety.The trilogy is set during the beginning of the 5th century (which is not arbitrary as there has been some evidence and loads of conjecture about a time in history that Arthur might have existed in; some scholars argue that he was a Romano-Brit cavalry officer with a foot in both camps. I happen to like that assertion as it makes a sort of sense to me as there is absolutely no record of Arthur in 12th century England (or Wales where the tales first originated) and certainly not in any later period as the film would suggest (with the use of full plate harness armor which would not become the norm until the 15th century). This Arthur is a seemingly-simple character, slow to anger, quick to laugh; commands the respect of his troops and any soldiers who first meet him. He is also a consummate warrior and leader, but anyone familiar with Arthur already knows that. So what sets this book apart, besides the referential timeline? The supporting cast. One of the things that I look for in a book is how strong are the other characters- are they stock, two dimensional, essentially blah? If that's the case, I'll still read, but I probably won't enjoy it as much. So not the case here; the book is written from the perspective of a displaced Saxon youth who will eventually prove himself worthy of Arthur. In addition to a strong supporting (well written) cast, Cornwell's depictions of battle are truly worth reading, then re-reading to absorb all of the layers he gives you. Most books of this genre will feature battles, and usually there's one or another hero who is focused on but even then, you don't get the impression of actual battle. You read it, you process it mentally, then you move onto the next portion of the story. Cornwell gets down to the nitty gritty; the horror of the shield wall, where heros are made, but even more are killed. When the shieldwalls of opposing armies meet, it is a loud reverberating clash, followed by the ring of metal weapons on wooden and leather shields, metal helmets and armor, the smell of the warrior across from you trying his damnedest to kill you while you return the favor as strongly as you might. His breath, mead-soaked (since it takes a lot of courage to charge a shield wall, most warriors prefer to do so after getting drunk) and rank, the stench comes off in waves from the unwashed bodies of everyone around you- including and not limited to the smells of urine and feces for those who couldn't hold their water or their bowels. Blood...blood everywhere; no one's clean after a battle. The heroes, the great slaughterers are usually covered in it from head to toe! Ok, I won't give anymore of the story away - suffice it to say, all three books are superbly written, I've read them multiple times and in fact, I've just finished reading the trilogy and that prompted me to revisit the Saxon Tales saga, written by the same author.
Cornwell continues the story of Arthur in this second book of The Warlord Chronicles. This is certainly a unique view of Arthur's story as opposed to the legends of Camelot normally available. I expect Cornwell captures a more realistic view of early England, and it shares similarities with other medieval period stories. I was uncertain about the story being narrated by one of the characters (later in life); however, it is well done and I enjoy the brief glimpses of the narrator's present time when writing the story. I would warn the story is more about the life of Derfel, friend and servant of Arthur's. Derfel's character is more fully developed than Arthur's. Nonetheless I have enjoyed both books and just started the third and last.

Until Mordred is old enough to rule Dumnonia himself, Arthur is effectively the king.Arthur dreams to unite the various kingdoms of Britain and push out the invading land-hungry Saxons. This is the story of Arthur. Over and over again, just when you think that Arthur's dream is to become a reality, the dream is shattered due to his own weaknesses, his sense of justice, the machinations of kings and those closest to him, the conflict between Christians and pagans, or most often his oath of loyalty to Mordred. Certainly, for a moment there is Camelot, but even then dark clouds are on the horizon.I highly recommend these books. As usual, Cornwell excels at describing the battles and the single combats. His take on characters is refreshing. For example, Lancelot is considered the greatest warrior in the land, not because of any actual accomplishments, but because of his ability to control his image, manipulate others, and pay the bards to sing his high praises; in truth, he is a coward. I've read many versions of the Arthur story. While it is difficult to rate one version against another as they are often so different, this is one of the best.

Alan makes this truth come alive and invites us into a leadership and gospel of grace with the goal of abiding in God's presence, trusting the deeper, transforming work of the Spirit to result in fruitfulness for an abundant life that spills over in everything thought, done and said. It is a picture of a "Mary-Martha"! How contemplation and action are integrated with a pace that honors both our humaness and God's Divinity. A must read with simple practices for deep change for anyone that dares to live life with God and others in humble trust, dependency and joyful action. The practices and reflections in this book will continue to be used to open my heart, mind and life to God. Where do I begin... this book and it's revelation on rest for leaders changed my life. Some of the big takeaways were Alan's study on Isaiah 55 and Ezekiel 47. It's like scripture that had been in the Bible all along were jumping out at me in a new way. I feel less burdened and closer to Jesus, my life's travel companion, in a way I never had before. I am making it a point to schedule uninterrupted communion with God on a daily basis and am actually planning on a silent retreat this fall (something I would have NEVER considered.) Please, if you are a leader in any capacity (a person of influence), this book is vital. Matt Brown of Norwood, Massachusetts, is now nearly nine years removed from the incidental contact that changed his life. Loved this book! As a hockey Mom, I cried and laughed throughout it. What an awesome story of triumph when faced with adversity. I even bought a second copy to lend out! (I want nt to make sure to keep my copy!) I highly recommend this, even if you aren’t into hockey.
Wow. This book is one that makes it difficult to put down. It’s an extremely well written account of the trauma and courage of an amazing young man. Such an inspiration and a “real†insight into the emotions and trials of becoming paralyzed especially at such a young age. I haven’t read a book in almost 8 years but I can tell you I finished this in 3 days. Must read!
“Line Change†encompasses fierce determination in the face of extraordinary challenges. Matt Brown is an inspiration. Never Quit is an apt mantra.
This book should be required reading at every school in the country. Matt's story is one that every young adult will gain great strength and learning is endless. I see summer reading with books that have no meaning and students read them to check off they read them. This book generates conversation. You are engaged and feel a part of Matt's journey from the beginning. Looking forward to his next chapter....or should I say chapterS.If you haven't picked this book up, highly encourage you do. If you haven't given it to your children (athletes or not) , I highly recommend you do. You won't regret it. I am not an avid reader and I got through it within a few days. One of those "can't stop turning the pages" books. Five Stars+.

Hockey is family. This book is an honest look at Matt’s injury and recovery from all the people closest to him. Matt is an inspiration and he truly is remarkable is how he chose to focus on the positive after his injury. I have this book for my own son’s to read as they are hockey players and I struggle to find things they will read without a fight. Through it all Matt encourages kids to continue to play the sport and focus on the positive. I admire Matt and his family and encourage everyone to read this book. There are so many messages to take from reading this book.
As a retired trauma nurse and mother of four children that played hockey for years, Line Change is a book that should be required high school reading! I loved the intimate portrait of life among family and friends that Matt shared with the reader. I also loved the chapters from those that know Matt closely that gave another look at life with Matt.Inspirational, personable, “Never Quit†attitude!
